Baytown is a city in Harris County, Texas, United States. It is located within the Houston metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, Baytown had a population of 71,992. On August 11, 1824, Baytown was founded as a trading post beside Buffalo Bayou. The original site was on the eastern bank of Bayou Bay and is now known as Old Town Baytown. In 1830, Edwin J. Davis purchased 240 acres (970,000 m²) of land from John Austin and established a plantation named Hazelhurst.
